BIOTA AFRICA has been jointly invented by African and German researchers aiming at the establishment of research supporting sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity in Africa.

Indigo is contributing a capacity development component focusing on TR learning and training workshop for BIOTA scientists in communication, participatory methods and facilitation.

Indigo is supporting a local organisation: Nieuwoudtville Seeds Aplenty to grow and market local seed to the international fair trade market.

A group of four local individuals has founded Seeds Aplenty as is harvesting seed in their nursery since 2005 for export and local sales. If you would like to contact Seeds Aplenty please email:

Indigo has been providing marketing support to the Heiveld Co-operative for the past years. The members of the Heiveld Co-operative are small scale rooibos tea farmers from the Bokkeveld Plateau producing wild and planted organic rooibos tea.

Indigo is working in close collaboration with the Nieuwoudtville Publicity Association to help new and viable biodiversity businesses to emerge.

Indigo provides backstopping and help with business management, bookkeeping and business plan development.

Indigo supported the development of the Rooibos Heritage Route in collaboration with a multi-stakeholder steering committee. The Route between Nieuwoudtville and Wupperthal offers authentic small scale farmers experiences ranging from guided hikes to explore rock art and medicinal plants to courses on baking of traditional bread and harvesting your own wild rooibos tea!
